Carl H. Schmeltzle

Carl H. "Buddy" Schmeltzle, 85, of Country Meadows of Allentown, died July 19, 2014. He was the husband of Mabel (Derr) Schmeltzle. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February. Born in Emmaus, he was the son of the late Carl R. and Frances (Ruth) Schmeltzle.

As a boy, he worked on local farms. He was a foreman at Rodale Manufacturing and was later self-employed as part owner of Carl R. Schmeltzle & Sons Used Cars & Parts.

He was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Zionsville.

He passed away while playing the slots, a favorite pastime, at Mount Airy Casino. He also loved gardening, driving, telling stores and rooting for the Phillies. He enjoyed talking politics and had a deeply held sense of fairness and equality. He and his wife spent many happy years at their home in Salisbury Township.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Linda and her husband Ronald Schaffer, of Macungie; sons, Barry and his wife Sharon, of Bailey, N.C., and Dale and his wife Shelley, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband Josh Bushey, Justin Schaffer and his wife Angie, Shaina and her husband Jared Mitchell, Eric and his wife Stephanie, Alexa and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Mackenzie, Havah and Caleb; siblings, Robert R. and Shirley Koheler. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances.
