A 21-year-old Easton man has been identified as the driver of a BMW who allegedly led police on a chase through Lehigh and Berks counties in May.
Upper Macungie Township Police Lt. Pete Nickischer says officers attempted to stop a green BMW for an alleged speeding violation 6:53 p.m. May 15 on Route 222, Upper Macungie Township.
According to Nickischer, the vehicle failed to stop for police and continued into the Borough of Kutztown, where it struck an occupied vehicle on the driver's side rear.
No injuries were reported with this accident, he said.
The vehicle then continued south on Route 222 into Muhlenberg Township, Berks County.
After entering a residential area, the driver, now identified as Desmond Q. Cole, jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot.
Nickischer said a search involving a police K-9 ensued, but Cole was not located.
After Cole exited the vehicle, it drifted through a yard at 718 Bellevue Ave., Reading, where it came to rest after striking a riding mower and the side of a home. This accident caused minor damage and no one was injured.
Nichischer said after an extensive investigation, detectives were able to identify the driver.
Cole was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, having accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and multiple summary traffic offenses, including driving under with a license under suspension and reckless driving.
An arrest warrant for Cole was signed by District Judge Michael Faulkner, Upper Macungie, Nichischer said.
