Damion R. Smith

Damion R. Smith, 30, of Slatington, died July 7, 2014, in his home.

The son of Linette (Muthard) Leickel of Walnutport and Robert W. Smith and his wife, Deborah, of Slatington, he was born in Allentown.

A 2002 Northern Lehigh graduate, he worked for Pencor, Palmerton, in the Technical Support Department.

He served with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.

When he returned home in 2004, he saved two young boys from a burning car after coming upon an accident in Washington Township.

He was awarded the military's Valley Forge Cross for Heroism, Slatington Citizen of the Year by the Slatington Lions Club and was also honored by the Slatington American Legion, Rotary Club and the Kiwanis International Foundation for his heroic efforts.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by companion, Alicia Creyer; sisters Brittany L. and Brandi L., both of Slatington; stepbrother, Shawn R. Kline of Coopersburg; half-brother, Andrew J. Schuler of Walnutport; niece Kali; and nephew Ryker.
