Bertram J. Hilbert

Bertram "Bert" J. Hilbert, 84, of Luther Crest and formerly of Allentown, died June 22, 2014, in Galilee House of Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth. He was the husband of Mary "Becky" (Koehler) Hilbert for 53 years.

Born in Hokendauqua, he was a son of the late Roland F and Margaret (Warke) Hilbert.

He was a 1936 graduate of Whitehall High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from East Stroudsburg University and a master's degree in speech pathology from Bloomsburg University.

He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was worked for Two Guys from Harrison. He taught fifth grade in Allentown before joining the special education department as a speech pathologist. He invented and U.S. patented "The Count" mechanical device that recorded responses in the speech field.

He was a member of Calvary Moravian Church, Allentown.

He was a past president of the Pennsylvania Speech and Hearing Association, the Schoolmen's Club of Allentown and a life member of PSEA. He sang in several groups and also was a soloist with church choirs, college organizations, the Luther Crest chorus and The LC-4 Quartet.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna L. and her husband William Fritchey of Northampton and their daughter, Andrea Leigh; and Becky's daughter, Rebecca Y. and her husband Stephen Krisko of North Wales, and their son Gregory D. and his daughter, Sadie Rayne of Nashville.

He was predeceased by a brother, Rowland and his wife Valeria.
