Epsaro headed to Moravian

Liberty High School graduate, Lauren Epsaro, will continue her softball career at Moravian College next year.

The former Hurricane outfielder considered Kutztown University and York College, but in the end, it was Moravian that won her over.

"I really liked Moravian, not only because it's close to home, but it's a small school, and everyone knows each other. I always wanted to do teaching, and they're known for that," Epsaro said.

Epsaro will live on campus with Catasauqua High School graduate and softball player, Janae Matos.

Epsaro said, "I went to a few games [at Moravian] this year, but it was hard because we had games too."

Greyhound coach, John Byrne, however, attended some of Liberty's games.

"Before I committed, he asked why I play softball and said it's really different compared to high school. He knows I'm an outfielder, but he's going to try us in different positions to see where we fit best," Epsaro said.

The Greyhounds ended the 2014 season with an overall record of 29-8 and a Landmark Conference record of 9-3.

Epsaro's overnight visit included time with the softball team and sitting in on a sports psychology class.

"I'm looking forward to meeting a whole bunch of new people and being more independent, living on my own. College will be a whole new level of competition compared to high school," said Epsaro.

Epsaro will major in early childhood education with a concentration in special ed.
