The Harry S Truman Elementary School Buddy Bench Walk-a-thon raised $2,540 toward the purchase of a Buddy Bench for the school's playground. Now those in need of a friend to play with at recess will simply sit on the bench and other children will join them. The school thanks the staff, students, families and community members who participated in this fundraiser.
To celebrate the end of Diversity Day, learning support teacher Tammy Cihylik at HST introduced her class to a Chinese version of Cinderella called, Yeh Shen. Her class was prepped for the project by previously studying the Chinese and Japanese culture. Activities included making carp kits, Chinese lanterns, origami shapes, Chinese character strokes and writing haikus. A video of the production is posted online at http://stsd. org/Truman.
