LB looks to get back on track
Lehigh Bethlehem Connie Mack head coach Keith Lehman has watched his team come full circle in a season that arguably has been a campaign of two seasons.
Through their first eight games, Lehigh Bethlehem blitzed through their schedule as they posted an undefeated mark. Since then, they have won only one of their previous six games, the latest ending in a 4-2 defeat to Lower Macungie Monday night.
The loss left them with an overall 9-5 record.
However, Lehman believes his squad can make a successful run in their remaining five games to place themselves in a position for a playoff spot.
"We're kind of hurting right now," said Lehman. "We're at the point where we are usually down a man or two in every game. But we have a true team effort that has been there all season long for us, and we can put ourselves in a good spot by winning most of our last five games.
"We're not out of this and we're still in the hunt."
Lehman noted that his team might have not yet reached its pinnacle despite their fast start.
"I don't think we have reached our peak," stated Lehman. "We had a great start and then we ran into some good teams. It is a long season as well. We really didn't anticipate a start like we had because we had lost a number of guys from last year's team.
"Even though we have lost a few games lately, we still have a lot of fight left in this team."
Lehman stated how his four-man staff comprised of Casey Cleary, Mike Lancaster, Mike Lehman and Vinny Martisi have been a major key to their early success. Yet, it still has been a true team effort that has set the pace.
"We have had a consistent pitching staff all season long," said Lehman. "But it has been a real team effort for us all season. I really hate to state that it was one, two, or three players lately. All season long, we have had a number of people step it up for us."
Lehman stressed a matchup with Catasauqua as a vital one for his team. Lehigh Bethlehem also will have four more games that began with Bangor earlier this week. He remains confident of his team's final destination in a few weeks.
"Catasauqua was a huge game for us," said Lehman. "They are also in the hunt and we are basically in the same boat. We also had a big game with Bangor. We just need to put a streak together down the stretch here.
"We have been playing as a team and we just have to put it all together."
