Coming off a very successful year in 2013, the Northampton Farmers Market will be back for a second year beginning July 9.
The site remains the vacant lot the borough acquired from Brian Kroope.
Borough Manager Gene Zarayko recently said the farmers market will be held Tuesdays, from 3 to 7 p.m.
It is hoped the uptown market gives a boost to retail stores that line Main Street.
A large sign will be placed at 21st & Main streets informing the public of the farmers market.
Vendors from last year will return with new vendors possibly joining the market.
Community Planner Victor Rodite will provide a list of vendors and products available to the public at a later date.
Also, Allen Township and Bath growers are returning, offering everything from tomatoes, lettuce, corn and much more. There could also be entertainment provided, along with nonfarm items such as popcorn.
Rodite also made his pitch to Northampton County officials for approximately $35,000 in grant funding for the mini-park. The project has already secured roughly $65,000 in casino funding.
Zarayko said the borough is awaiting word from the county regarding the status of its grant request.
The park would include a gazebo, benches and lighting, with the total cost not to to exceed $115,000.
The property is located between a church on the south side and a coffee shoppe and Roxy Theatre on the north.
