Paul A. Thompson

Paul A. Thompson, 91, formerly of Clearwater, Fla., died June 9, 2014, in Luther Crest Health Center, South Whitehall Township.

He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years Elizabeth L. (Fair) Thompson and is survived by his wife of 10 years Ida B. (Thacker) Kearns-Thompson of Clearwater.

Born July 6, 1922, in Rochester, Beaver County, he was the son of the late Paul G. and L. Lenore (Arnold) Thompson.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II achieving the rank of rank of staff sergeant.

An accomplished jazz musician, he earned a Master's degree from the University of Michigan in music.

Over the years, he played with the Tommy Phillips Orchestra and the Clearwater Jazz Band.

Additionally, he taught music in several Pennsylvania school districts as well as Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Sandra L. Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna L. Thompson of Emmaus, James A. Thompson and his wife, Karen, of Schnecksville; sister Audrey L., wife of Dr. Byrne Marston of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren Sarah and Rebecca; and Ida's family Michael, Renee, Madison and Paige.
