Klein makes Cup softball team

Whitehall High School softball player, Karly Klein, has been named to the 2014 Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team.

The Lehigh Valley team is comprised of players from local high schools in the LVC and the Colonial League and is coached by John Eyer.

The Carpenter Cup Softball Classic is a tournament for teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and is sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies. It gives players exposure to college coaches.

Regarding try outs, Klein said, "I was extremely nervous because there's just so much talent, and I was very grateful when I made it, and considering it was my first time made it more nervewracking."

When Eyer announced his roster last week, Klein was fortunate to have her name called second.

"We were all waiting there after the last practice, and the coach said something like, if I call your name, you're on the team, and if not, thank you for coming," said Klein.

The Lehigh Valley team will have a practice and a scrimmage this week.

"I'm looking forward to having all that talent from the area combined on one team and seeing how far we can go. I've only been to two try outs, and I can tell we're going to be a good group," Klein said.

The Lehigh Valley team will face Berks County on June 23.
