HCPA house tour is the last stop during Old Home Week

The last event scheduled for Catasauqua's Old Home Week may be the best for those interested in the architectural details of the borough's historic homes.

The Historic House and Garden Tour is slated for July 6 and caps the Old Home Week celebrations.

Centered on the July 4th holiday, Old Home Week is a weeklong celebration of Catasauqua and North Catasauqua inviting past residents and friends to come home to renew old friendships.

The tour is sponsored by the Historical Catasauqua Preservation Association and is their primary fundraiser.

The house tour features original Queen Anne, Victorian, Georgian and Federal styles built by industrialists who forged the anthracite iron industry.

Highlights include the Rose Lawn on Circle Drive, a garden 30 years in the making, featuring 250 varieties of daylilies; the Fuller houses on Front Street with their grand formal staircases, stained glass windows, marble fireplace and ornately fluted columns; David Thomas' home that was encased in grey granite by his grandson Edwin; the Presbyterian Church established by Dave Thomas, featuring the church organ from 1904 and original oil painting of the Thomas family; and houses along Fifth Street that showcase period styles with original woodwork, mosaic floor tile and original furniture collections.

These private homes will be open to the public, some for the first time. The George Taylor House and the Biery House, both public venues, will add to the tour with their collection of artifacts, period paintings and historical Catasauqua memorabilia.

The tour is self-guided, allowing visitors to linger over the details and admire the craftsmanship of these unique homes.

Tour tickets can be purchased at Hartzell's Pharmacy, Evonne's Sandwich Shop, Cathy's Creative Catering, Schlegel's Dry Cleaning and Julia's 4 Seasons. On the day of the tour, tickets are available at the Biery House.

The ticket provides a map and a description of the features of each property on the tour.

The tour starts at noon and continues to 5 p.m.
