Helen M. Happel

Helen M. Happel, 85, of South Whitehall Township, died Saturday June 7, 2014, Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown.

She and her husband George Happel were married 60 years last February.

Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline (Ballas) Sickonic.

A 1947 graduate of Northampton High School, she graduated in 1983 from Eastern Airline Travel Academy.

Before retiring to Naples, Fla., she owned Travel Agent's International, formerly in Allentown, and was a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, Cruise Lines International Association and the Chamber of Commerce.

She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield, and a prior member of Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena Church, Allentown where she was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and volunteered for Lehigh Valley and Sacred Heart hospitals.

When living in Allentown, she was an avid bridge teacher and played at the Lehigh Valley Active Life Center and has maintained her membership with Lehigh Country Club.

While in Naples, she continued her bridge teaching and became a member of the Stonebridge Country Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son Mark A. of Mertztown; daughter, Beverly A., wife of Robert Kistler, of Allentown, and grandchildren George, Justin, Brandon and Jenna.

She was predeceased by brothers John, Michael, Frank and Joseph and sisters Mary Cizmar and Margaret Smith.
