Florence E. Brown, 98, of Northampton, died May 27, 2014, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.
Born in Kent, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Beierstedt) Brown.
She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Temple University and a master's degree from the Universty of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Jennie Edmunson Nursing School, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She was the director of nursing at Temple Hospital and School of Nursing for 19 years. She was the first director of Nursing at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.
She was a member of the National League for Nursing and the American Nursing Association. She was a founding member of the board to form the hospice at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was a member of the Quota Club, Northampton, where she was the presdeint twice. She was a board member of Meals on Wheels for more than 25 years. A golfer, she had a hole-in-one at Shepherd Hills Golf Course.
She is survived by two nieces, Peggy and her husband Dave Zimmerman and Janice Boyle; a nephew, Steve and his wife Martha Wilbur; nephew-in-law; Karen Wilbur; and caregiver Dorothy Holveck.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Lola and Lois Brown; and a nephew, Larry Wilbur.
