Edward G. Cherski

Edward "Eddie" G. Cherski, 88, of Stiles, died June 6, 2014, at home. He was the husband of Bernice F. (Sosnoswki) Cherski for 65 years.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Hoshko) Czyrski.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He played for the troops at the USO, St. Louis, Mo.

He attended electrical school in St. Louis, Mo., and studied electrical engineering at Penn State - Allentown Campus.

He was a senior electrician for Universal Atlas Cement Company, Northampton. He worked for Carbon–Lehigh Intermediate Unit for more than 20 years, and for Leibensperger School Transportation.

Since the age of 14, he played the trumpet and the violin in various Polish orchestras. He was the leader of "The Dynamates" and "The Naturals" Polish orchestras.

He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Polish Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, where he was one of the main organizers of the church festivals.

He was a member of the United Lime and Gypsum Workers of America and was head of safety committee and a trustee of the union. He was a past board member of the Saints Peter and Paul Credit Union and of the Polish American Citizens Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Bernadette Bodogh and her husband Geoffrey H. Chambers of Whitehall; a grandson, Andrew E. Bodogh; a grandaughter, Avalon Chambers; a brother, Stanley Czyrski of Bethlehem; and nieces and nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Timar Knopf.
