LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LVC/MVC split games

The theme of the 33rd Annual Lions All-Star Classic was fun, but competitive play.

The boys and girls had both fun and competitive exhibition games held at Whitehall High School on Sunday, June 1.

The Lehigh Valley Conference teamed up with the Mountain Valley Conference to square off against the Colonial League.

In the girls game, rivals during the high school season, but teammates at the club level, connected for a goal in the second half to help put away a 3-1 win for the LVC/MVC all-stars.

Offensive MVP Amanda McCarthy of Emmaus volleyed home an effort from the cross of Bethlehem Catholic's Bridget Parise for the only goal of the second half. The two were teammates at the club level so have some experience playing with each other.

"Amanda's a great player and I know how she plays," said Parise. "I knew that she was going to be there, so once I got the ball my first instinct was to cross it to her."

Along with McCarthy, Parise was also able to finish her high school career playing alongside high school teammate Marissa Iannelli.

"It was a good experience," noted Parise. "It was nice to play with girls that know and love the game like I do."

Parise will be continuing her playing career at Kean University in New Jersey, and Iannelli, a winner of one of the scholarships given out by the Lions Club, will be playing at Eastern University. Amelia Sapirman of Liberty also participated.

The boys weren't as fortunate in their game.

The Colonial League scored two goals in the first couple of minutes of each half and never trailed in a 6-3 win.

Quinn Ackerman and Josh Wasilick of Freedom were members of the LVC/MVC team. Wasilick made four saves in the game.
