Academic all-stars honored

Seniors Rachel Sell and Jacob Rusnock were selected as Catasauqua High School's Colonial League Academic All-Stars for the 2013-14 school year.

Both students were honored, along with student-athletes from the other 13 Colonial League schools, at the Colonial League Academic All-Star Breakfast at the Green Pond Country Club.

Sell is ranked first out of 119 with a grade point average of 100.39. She was a three-year letter winner in field hockey and a first-year letter winner in girls basketball.

Rachel was field hockey captain and was also named to the Colonial League Field Hockey second team her junior and senior year. She is President of her class and Treasurer of Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Rachel is also the school board student representative. She has earned distinguished honor roll every marking period and received the Donley Award for Excellence. She's also is a volunteer at Peaceable Kingdom Animal Shelter in Whitehall.

Sell plans on attending Saint Joseph's University to double major in actuarial science and mathematics.

Jacob is ranked third out of 119 with a grade point average of 99.83. He was a four-year letter winner in wrestling and finished his career with a record of 107-49, becoming the 14th wrestler in school history to reach 100 career wins.

This past season Jacob was named to Colonial League First Team at 132 pounds, finished fourth at districts and sixth at regionals, falling one win shy of qualifying for the state tournament.

Rusnock is the President of the National Honor Society, Varsity "C" Club Treasurer, Class of 2014 Treasurer, Secretary of SADD and is a member of student council and student forum.

Rusnock is currently participating in the Lehigh University Scholars Program. He also participated in cross country and track and field. He has not yet decided on his college choice, but is currently considering Lehigh University and Bucknell University.
