HST students recently joined St. Luke's University Health Network to kick off the program "Get Your Tail on the Trail." Students stretched, ran and enjoyed Zumba dancing. The program encourages families to get active this summer. To participate in the challenge, students must track miles on log sheets and hand the log sheets in at the start of the 2014-2015 school year. HST students can win prizes for their school. For example, 5,000 miles earns $250 and 10,000 earns $500. For more information, visit www.stsd.org/news.
HST honored its maintenance staff during a recent school leadership gathering. Students presented custodians with cards and gift baskets made in their Leadership Club.
Meanwhile, HST students selected their 2014-2015 Student Lighthouse Team. Recess provides a time for play and for socializing. However, some kids feel shy when it comes to approaching their peers. HST students are raising money to provide a special spot on the playground for these students. It's called the "Buddy Bench."
Here's how it works. A child sits on the bench, signifying to other students he or she would like a playmate. In turn, fellow classmates befriend the child by way of conversation or playtime.
HST students are raising money for the bench by holding a "Buddy Bench Walk-A-Thon" June 6. To be a parent volunteer or to sponsor a student, go to the school website at www.stsd.org/ truman.
SHS softball coach Ken Choquette recently was named "Colonial League Softball Coach of the Year." Congratulations, Ken and to the Falcons for finishing the season 13-8.
