David P. Amdur

David P. Amdur, 38, of Emmaus, died May 31, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Sharon Maynard Amdur. They would have celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary June 24. Born in Cambridge, Mass., he was the son of Nicholas J. and Margaret (Sauer) Amdur of Hingham, Mass.

A 1994 graduate of Thayer Academy, Braintree, Mass., he received a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1998 fron Rice University, Houston, Texas. After graduation, he spent three years in Quito, Ecuador where he worked as a software engineer. After returning to the United States, he worked for Agile Software in San Jose, Calif., and later Towers Perrin, Boston, Mass. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Since 2010, he served as an assistant professor of economics at Muhlenberg College.

An avid hiker, he enjoyed the outdoors and had conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mt. Cotopaxi in Ecuador. A most memorable trip was sea kayaking in Alaska with his wife.

He is survived by his wife; parents; son, Thomas J.; daughter, Juliet R.; brother, Matthew B. and his wife Alyssa; niece, Rowan, all of Cambridge, Mass; father and mother-in-law, Scott and Penny Maynard, of Ottsville.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. June 5 in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton streets, Allentown. Call 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 4 in the funeral home.
