Vivaldi summer: The Valley Vivaldi chamber music series, four Sunday evening concerts presented by the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, begins at 7:30 p.m. June 8, Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. The series continues June 29 at Christ Lutheran and shifts to Wesley Church, Bethlehem, for performances July 20 and Aug. 17. Sinfonia principals Mary Ogletree, above left, and Rebecca Brown, above right, are the featured violinists for Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in D minor for two violins and strings. Oboist Cheryl Bishkoff is soloist for Bach's Oboe Concerto in D minor, BWV 1059, accompanied by strings and harpsichord. Sinfonia principal trumpet Lawrence Wright and colleagues perform the Trumpet Sonata in F by Pietro Baldassare. Big Band sound: The Glenn Miller Orchestra, above, performs at 3 p.m. June 8, State Theatre Center for the Arts, 453 Northampton St., Easton. The 18-member ensemble, led by vocalist Nick Hilscher since January 2012, plays many of the original Miller arrangements from the civilian band and the Army Air Force Band libraries. Miller's recordings include "In The Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," "Pennsylvania 6-5000," Chattanooga Choo Choo," "Tuxedo Junction" and "Little Brown Jug." The band also plays modern selections arranged in the Miller style. In 1956, under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Other leaders have included clarinetists Buddy DeFranco and Peanuts Hucko, trombonists Buddy Morrow, Jimmy Henderson, Larry O'Brien and Gary Tole, and tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart.
