Sunday of Old Home Week
On Sunday, June 29, Emily Zacharda plans to have family get-togethers at Catasauqua Park & Playground as part of the borough's Old Home Week celebration.
Centered on the Fourth of July holiday, Old Home Week is a weeklong celebration during which Catasauqua and North Catasauqua residents are encouraged to invite past residents to come home and renew old friendships.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Old Home Week celebration that celebrated the industrial history and progress of the communities.
Sunday in the Park is oriented around athletic events open to past and present residents. At Thomas Field, a youth soccer tourney kicks off the day's activities.
"We plan to have a tennis tournament and we want to increase the number of players," Zacharda told The Press. "Those who want to sign up need to email JSnyder603@ gmail.com."
If your scores in tennis always end in love, other events might be of interest. Catasauqua High School alumni are invited to participate in a sand volleyball tournament. Email Tyler_Miller21@ yahoo.com to get on a team. Add to the list pickleball and a bike rodeo, sponsored by the Catasauqua Police Department.
Crafters and food vendors will be at the park.
"We can always use a few more because we expect a large turnout for the family day activities," said Zacharda.
Vendors and crafters can secure a location by emailing zacharda@verizon.net.
For those who want to eat and people-watch, there will be entertainment in the amphitheater with several featured bands playing from opening to closing.
"We have a working blacksmith exhibit and an athletic boot camp workout demo from Barry Lovelace's Athlete Training Academy," Zacharda said.
Wildlands will have their animal kingdom exhibit and Sleepy Hollow Farms will bring along their llamas, goats, sheep and other farm animals. Three animal rescue shelters will also be represented.
