LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Student Profile: Arden Ashford, Moravian Academy

Grade: 12

Family members: Robert and Sarina Ashford (parents); Elise Ashford (11th grader at Southern Lehigh); Wade Ashford (eighth grader at Moravian)

Favorite subject: I have always loved math and science because I enjoy challenging myself; there is a feeling of satisfaction after completing a tough problem and it is reassuring to know there is only one correct answer. The three classes I have especially enjoyed throughout high school are physics, calculus and AP environmental science.

Activities: Varsity tennis, 9-12: varsity swimming, 9-12; softball, 9, 10, 12: Student Council, secretary and representative; peer tutor; Pride Mentor (assist new students during their transition to Moravian); Student Ambassador (work in the admissions office); community service (Estonian Children's Summer Camp); MARS (Moravian Academy Research Scholar at Lehigh University)

Next steps: I plan on going to college to find something I would love to do for the rest of my life. I am not going to pigeonhole myself by having my whole future planned at 17 years old. I am going to college open-minded and ready to embrace all the new and interesting classes and experiences to help shape me for what I want to be when I grow up.

Career goals: I want to be doing something that helps other people and that I will be happy to wake up and do every day. I believe the most important thing is to follow your heart and do what you love.

Heroes: My physics teacher, Mr. Bross. Physics was the HARDEST class I have ever taken, and Mr. Bross was so inspirational because he taught me to work hard, but also to enjoy the subject by having all sorts of awesome and fun activities. He is one of my heroes because I will use the skills I learned from the class for the rest of my life.

My tennis coach: he saw more in me, more than I thought I could ever be. I Learned to not only discipline my body, but also my mind. I am a much greater player because he taught me to never quit.

Hobbies: Playing the piano, reading, playing sports in my free time

Current job(s): I work at Locust Valley Golf Course on weekends, and babysit.

Volunteer/community work: Estonian Children's Summer Camp in Long Island (received a Community Service Award for my achievement)

Likes: I love going on hikes and bike rides.

Dislikes: Cold weather

Greatest accomplishment (so far): Sports: My tennis team went to the state finals in 2012 and semi-finals in 2-13; Academically: High honor roll during my whole high school career
