Richard E. Wagner
Richard E. "Dick" Wagner, 88 years and 1 day, formerly of E. Highland St. Allentown, died peacefully May 7, 2014, in Westminster Village, Allentown.
Born in Fountain Hill, he was a son of the late Dr. Floyd N. and Nydia L. (Wallen) Wagner.
He and his wife, Ruth M. (Leiby) Wagner, were married 63 years at the time of her death on Aug. 10, 2013.
A devoted member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Allentown, he previously served on the congregational council.
Having honorably served as a sonarman with U.S. Navy during World War II, he was a member of Harold L. Peter American Legion Post 576, Allentown, the USS Firedrake Association and the AE Sailor Association.
A 1950 graduate of Lafayette College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, he worked for Bethlehem Steel in a supervisory position with the engineering department for 31 years before retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Steel Club.
He was an adjunct professor at Northampton County Community College for nine years, visiting lector and adjunct professor at Lafayette College, and Cub Pack Committee leader at Midway Manor Moravian Church.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Golf League and the Split Rock Club.
He greatly enjoyed saltwater fishing, hunting and skiing.
His survivors include children John F. and his wife, Nancy Baran of Princeton Junction, N.J., Carol L. Reppert and her husband, Raymond, of Allentown, and Richard C. and his wife, Catherine, of Montrose, Colo.; grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Jonathan, Michael, William and Andrew; great-grandchildren Jackson, Henry, Emily and Natalie.
