Volleyball team seeks second straight LVC title

Scott Trumbauer knows that every team that takes the court against Parkland is going to give everything it has.

That's why the Trojans need their own wake-up calls sometimes.

Parkland landed a spot in yesterday's LVC volleyball finals, but needed to get over a game-one hurdle against Easton during Monday's semifinals to win in four games, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20.

The Trojans met Northampton in last Thursday's championship, but game was played after Press deadline.

One thing that Trumbauer and company learned from Monday's victory is that they need to have some bumps in the road if they want to pave a winning path.

"One of our players said there's a reason it's a best-of-five series," Trumbauer said about their game-one loss to Easton this week. "I told the kids the other day that every match from here on out is going to be tough. Every team wants to beat us as much as we want to beat them. They [Easton] beat us in the first set and that slapped us back into reality."

Parkland earned the opportunity to play for it second straight LVC championship when it takes the court in Thursday's final at Liberty's Memorial Gymnasium. The Trojans defeated Northampton in both of their league encounters this season, sweeping them last week to certainly provide the K-Kids with a dose of revenge heading into last night's tilt.

""Parkland was here watching what we are capable of," said Northampton head coach Doug Fehnel about their win over Emmaus Monday night in the other LVC semifinal. "Last time, we didn't show up when we played them [Parkland]. It was their senior night the last time we played and they had a lot of momentum, so you never know."

Trumbauer does know that no matter who is in front of his team, it needs to come out swinging the rest of the season.

"When we watched Northampton [against Emmaus] it seemed like they couldn't do a single thing wrong," Trumbauer said. "That's how we were the last time we played them. I know that feeling of having everything go on all cylinders and I hope they don't do that to us in the final."

The District 11 tournament is set to begin Thursday, followed by Friday's quarterfinal round. Semifinals are slated for next Tuesday and finals next Thursday, May 22.
