Charges of aggravated assult and resisting arrest were filed against Brian Patrick Chapman, of Pottsville, May 7, as a result of a stolen vehicle investigation and police pursuit late last month.
The chase started in Allentown and ended in a parking lot at Kohl's Department Store at the Trexlertown Mall in Lower Macungie Township.
Chapman is accused of fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle April 26. The chase moved through Emmaus and continued into Lower Macungie Township where Chapman allegedly crashed into a tree and fled on foot toward the department store parking lot, according to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police.
Police investigation found Chapman allegedly hid between parked cars and lunged at one of the troopers who was pursuing him. The trooper is not named in the press release.
"Due to the immediate threat posed to him, the trooper fired his service weapon. Chapman resisted arrest but was taken into custody at the scene," according to Trooper Kirk R. Vanim.
Chapman was not injured.
