St. Luke's 21st spring concert

St. Luke's Singers presents its 21st Annual Spring Concert, "This is My Song," 3 p.m. May 18, First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem.

An instrumental and organ prelude begins at 2:45 p.m. May 18 in the church.

The concert includes classical, sacred and contemporary choral works. sacred repertoires. There are selections based on poetry by Walt Whitman and Robert Frost and music from opera and standards of the 1940's and 50's.

Accompanists include Romaine Laury, piano, and Brian Snyder, organ, trumpets, trombones, bass, drums and woodwinds.

The choir is newly-directed by Nancy Shumaker, a Bethlehem Area School District music teacher-choir director retiree.

Concert proceeds benefit the St. Luke's Cancer Center's Hope and Healing Series.

The St. Luke's Singers is the only hospital-based choir in Eastern Pennsylvania and annually performs a winter holiday and spring concert. Since its founding in 1991, membership has increased from 33 to 60-plus members.

The choir is composed of St. Luke's physicians, nurses and employees, as well as volunteers from as many as 14 Lehigh Valley communities.

The St. Luke's Singers has raised more than $243,110 as of December 2013 for St. Luke's recipients.
