Zephs shine at ASD meet

Bright spots aplenty illuminated the track as the Zephyrs shined at the Allentown School District Invitational last week.

The boys wound up taking second among the 26 teams that descended upon J. Birney Crum, trailing only East Stroudsburg North for track supremacy. WHS scored 53.75 points, just 6.25 behind the leaders.

The girls finished with 18 points, placing them 14th.

The Zephs kicked it off in high gear as Kyleem Harrison finished second in the 100, crossing in 11.25. He was also third in the 110 hurdles with a 15.42 finish and was fourth in the long jump, hitting the pit at 21-1.50.

"He ran really well," said head coach James Sebesta. "He had a terrific day."

Gabe Lamm also had a good day. He was third in the mile at 4:28.85, and then finished sixth in the 3,200 with a 10:05.82 mark.

Once again the 4x800 relay team was the class of the competition, crossing the line in 8:04.01. The team of J.C. Falcon, Brian Plucinsky, Calvin Schneck and Andrew Frisch set a school record in the process, breaking the record set last year.

The Zephyrs continued to shine in the jumps. Falcon was second in the high jump at 5-9. Sebesta said that Falcon may have soared higher, but once it started to rain, the senior pulled himself out for lack of good footing.

In the triple jump, Isaiah Cary was seventh with a 44-1.75 leap, while Nick Nejad finished second in the javelin with a 172-8.

Sebesta said that the boys delivered with stellar performances.

"The boys were outstanding," he said. "They did a great job. They came out and really competed."

For the girls, Angela Stella was fourth in the 800 with a 2:24.03, while their 4x400 relay team finished fourth, breaking the tape in 4:18.01.

They were also strong in the 4x800 relay with Alexandra Dorner, Stella, Hannah Gill and Madison Walker taking fifth with a 9:59.56 mark.

In the long jump, Ivana Jones sailed into fifth place with a 17-6 mark. Sebesta said it was a personal best for Jones.

He said the meet was punctuated by a number of personal bests, and serves as another stepping stone in their ultimate goal of trying to get as many athletes to states as possible.
