Running inury program May 15
"The Treatment and Prevention of Common Running Injuries: Tips and tools on how to prevent and treat common running injuries" with Matt Babbitt, PT, DPT, CPed, Cert. MDT, is set for 7 to 8 p.m. May 15 in Barnes & Noble at the Promenade Shops, 2960 Center Valley Parkway, Center Valley. To register for either or both sessions, call 1-866-STLUKES (785-8537).
Charity Bike Ride
St. Luke's Hospice is hosting the fourth Annual Charity Bike Ride at 10 a.m. May 3 along the D&L National Heritage Trail, Lehighton Trailhead, 200 North Main Lane, Lehighton.
There is an 18 and a 36 mile trail ride. The cost includes a participation kit, shirt, bike loan from Pocono Biking (if needed) and shuttle service for the 18 mile riders and bikes. All proceeds benefit the St. Luke's Hospice program. Registration is required; visit www.active.com and search for St. Luke's Hospice by April 30 or on the morning of the event from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the Lehighton Trail head.
Haaf award
Vince Lucente, M.D., Section Chief of Urogynecology, St. Luke's University Health Network, presented the first Robin Haff Research and Scholarship Award to to Toni Marek-Mazzariello, RN, CCAP, of St. Luke's Hospice, at the St. Luke's Annual Nursing Research and Scholarship Day Event on April 15.
Marek-Mazzariello is currently researching Aromatherapy Treatments for Hospice Patients Experiencing Terminal Restlessness. She will present her findings at the 2015 St. Luke's Annual Nursing and Research Day.
The scholarship was established by Dr. Lucente in 2013 to honor Robin Haff, R.N., BS.N., as a memorial to her work as Director of Women's Health Research for St. Luke's University Health Network and to encourage fellow nurses to share Robin's passion for evidence-based research projects that result in improved patient care. The presentation is the culmination St. Luke's Nursing Research and Scholarship Day, a day-long event coordinated and facilitated by nurses for nurses to share research and nursing best practices.
Lehigh Valley Health Network
Barraco appointed associate dean
Lehigh Valley Health Network and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine's SELECT medical education program has named Robert Barraco, M.D., currently associate professor of surgery and chief, geriatric trauma and trauma outreach at LVHN, has been appointed the interim associate dean for educational affairs.
Barraco replaces J. Alan Otsuki, M.D., the founding associate dean for educational affairs, who is taking a senior associate dean position with the Frank H. Netter, M.D., School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, Conn.
