Charotin Hose Co. Fire Calls

North Catasauqua's Charotin Hose Company firefighters responded to the following calls recently.

Wires down

March 27, 11:10 a.m.

North Catasauqua and Northampton firefighters responded to a report of a wire fire and smoking transformer at First Street and Washington Avenue in Northampton. Initial reports indicated live wires down and sparking.

Firefighters arrived on location and found wires had burned off and had fallen to the ground. The transformer was no longer smoking. Neighbors reported one house without power. PPL, the local electric utility, was notified and firefighters established a perimeter and awaited the arrival of PPL.

The scene was secured and turned over to PPL for repairs once they arrived.

Washer

malfunction

March 29, 2:36 p.m.

North Catasauqua firefighters responded with the Catasauqua Fire Department for a reported apartment building fire at 118 Bridge St., Catasauqua.The caller reported a dryer fire on the fourth floor.

Firefighters arrived and found an overheated belt in an overloaded washing machine. There was no fire upon arrival. Firefighters set up multiple fans to ventilate the light smoke condition.

The malfunctioning machine was turned over to building maintenance personnel and firefighters cleared the scene.

Move-up

assignment

March 30, 2:36 p.m.

Charotin personnel were dispatched on a move-up assignment to the Fullerton section of Whitehall Township to cover for the Fullerton Fire Station, while Whitehall firefighters were busy at a second-alarm structure fire at the Perkins Restaurant on MacArthur Road, Whitehall.
