Baseball rallies for 2 wins; girls fall

The Catty baseball team again rallied for a victory, this time against Bangor on Tuesday.

The Slaters took a 2-0 lead in the first before Catty tied it in the bottom of the inning, 2-2. Mike Shutta singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Alex Torres followed with a single. Torres came home on a sac fly by Tyler Correll.

Bangor would answer in the top of the third with two more runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Still trailing heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Roughs rallied for four runs. Correll started things by reaching on an error and then stealing second.

Brandon Purrone's single scored Correll to make it 4-3. Zack Bradley reached base on a fielder's choice and Derrick Bond singled to load the bases for Joe Rothrock. Rothrock would reach base on an error by the center fielder that also allowed two runs to score to make it 5-4 in favor of Catty.

Bond would come around to score on a sac fly from Shutta to make it 6-4.

Bradley went the distance allowing four runs, five hits and five walks while fanning one.

The boys rallied from a three-run deficit to knock off Northern Lehigh 8-3 at home on Monday.

Catty trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Correll started things getting hit by a pitch which was followed by a Brandon Purrone single and an Alex Torres single, which scored Correll. After two fielder's choices, Nate Doria signed home Torres and Dakota Schiffer eventually scored on an error.

Catty got two more runs in the fifth.

Correll was again hit by a pitch, he then sole a base and came home on Purrone's double. Purrone would score to make it 5-3 on Schiffer's single.

The Roughs would add three more in the sixth.

Mike Shutta walked and Joe Rothrock singled home Shutta. Randal Pacchioli was hit by a pitch and then stole second before scoring on Purrone's single. Purrone would eventually score on a Torres single.

Correll got win pitching all seven innings, striking out seven and walking just two while allowing five hits.

Catty blanked Palisades 6-0 in a weekend game.

They got off to a quick start with three runs in the first, which was enough for Dakota Schiffer, who went the distance allowing eight hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters.

Mikey Shutta was 2-for-4 and Brandon Purrone was 2-for-5. Tyler Correll doubled and drove in two runs in the win. Derrick Bond had two RBIs and Alex Torres had one RBI.

SOFTBALL

Catty fell to Bangor 7-3 Tuesday.

With the game tied 3-3 heading into the seventh, the Slaters scored four in the top of the frame for the win.

Janae Matos was 2-for-4 while Hannah Edwards, Shannon Gallagher and Shea O'Brien had RBIs for the Roughs. Gallagher's hit was a double.

Catasauqua's softball team rallied for a late-inning victory over Northern Lehigh on Monday at home.

The Bulldogs got a first inning run and made it stand until the bottom of the sixth when the Roughs put a three-spot on the board and held on for a 3-1 victory.

Alexis Ayache got the win walking three and striking out five with allowing six hits. Shea O'Brien had the game-winning RBI.

The Catty softball team used a late rally to knock off Palisades on the road over the weekend.

The Roughies trailed 5-2 heading into the sixth before erupting for six runs to win 8-5.

Danielle Lilly had a big day going 4-for-5 with three doubles a run scored and three RBIs. Shannon Gallagher was 3-for-4 with a home run in the second inning for Catty's first score. Amarys Moten was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Alexis Ayache picked up the win and held the Pirates scoreless over the last two innings.
