Freedom HS hosted the second annual Bethlehem Area School District mini-THON April 26. Students from Freedom and Liberty were involved in the fundraising event which was held at Liberty last year.

The Mini-Thon as a fundraiser consisting of a dance marathon to raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. It emulates Penn State's 46-hour THON which is the single largest student-run philanthropy in the world.

Students from both Bethlehem high schools worked together year-round to raise awareness and money. The event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. was filled with entertainment and activities for the 12 hours the dancers stayed on their feet.

Corporate sponsor Coordinated Health played a significant role with a $10,000 contribution. Total local business sponsorships totaled $28,000. The rest $57,380 of the money was raised by members throughout the year. Money raised will go to the Four Diamonds Fund at Hershey Medical Center to assist families who have children with cancer.

"This has been an amazing year and a life changing event," said Freedom Mini-Thon adviser Bill Safranek. "Our goal for THON 2014 was 30K as we did 23K last year. We surpassed this goal by a huge amount making over 57K. I don't know how we are going to beat that next year."
