Rae Lynne Tuffiash

Rae Lynne Tuffiash, 65, of South Whitehall Township, died April 29, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

She and her husband Dr. William Tuffiash shared 41 years of marriage.

Born in Rochester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Morris and Esther (Soran) Berger.

She was a member of Congregation Keneseth Israel, Allentown.

A respiratory therapist for several years in Syracuse, N.Y, she met her husband there.

While working in the Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, she saved the life of the chief of the Onondaga Indian Nation, the mother clan of the Iroquois Confederacy, and was made an honorary full-blooded member of the Onondaga Tribe.

A member of the Lehigh County Medical Society Auxiliary, she helped with Meals on Wheels deliveries and the Mr. Yuk Poison Control program.

She also chaired the auxiliary's "Death and Dying Program" in 1980 and invited Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross as the main speaker.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 28 of Nativity Lutheran Church, South Whitehall.

She even drove for a newspaper drive collection during a snowstorm in her eighth month of pregnancy.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Michael of Boulder, Colo., and Scott and his wife, Abigail, of Pittsburgh and their children Laila and Grace; daughter, Marisa Cidam and her husband, Atilla, of Boston; siblings Paulette Geller of Orlando, Fla., Alan Berger and his wife, Gale, of Rochester, N.Y., and Joseph Berger and his wife, Kathi, of Clifton Springs, N.Y.; and sister-in-law Miriam Berger. She was predeceased by her brother Yaacov Berger.

Her services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Congregation Keneseth Israel, 2227 W. Chew St., Allentown.

Interment will follow at Keneseth Israel Cemetery, Allentown.
