State Police Troop M Fogelsville say South Whitehall Township Police Officer Kyle W. Golden, 42, was driving a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria 5:12 p.m. April 13 at Parkway Road and Tilghman Street, South Whitehall Township, when his police cruiser collided with a 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL450 driven by Mukeshkumar B. Patel, 33, of Allentown.

Golden, who had the cruiser's emergency lights and sirens activated, was southbound on Parkway Road.

He stopped at the intersection and waited briefly for traffic to stop and clear the intersection.

After pausing, Golden attempted a left turn moving the cruiser forward before striking the eastbound Mercedes.

State police allege Patel failed to yield to the cruiser's emergency lights and sirens.

Neither of the drivers, who police say were wearing seat belts, was injured.

Patel was cited for failure to stop for an approaching emergency vehicle in addition to another traffic violation, police say.
