Girls lax beats LHS, stays perfect in LVC games

One of the biggest games of their season is in a few days against Easton.

However, that didn't deter the Parkland girls' lacrosse team from focusing on the task at hand prior to a matchup against Liberty on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans (9-3 overall; 6-0 in LVC) had little trouble disposing the Lady Hurricanes (2-9 overall; 2-5 in LVC). A 12-1 lead at halftime quickly inflated to 17-1 before the Lady Trojans secured the 18-3 victory at Troxell Middle School.

"He [head coach John Seitzinger] said that we have to take every game leading up to it seriously as we were playing them, so then going into that game we're not lackadaisical and falling asleep," Mackenzie Galli said.

Before the Lady Trojans travel to Easton, a meeting against Central Catholic awaits on Thursday. Despite facing another struggling team in the Vikettes, the Lady Trojans are able to use this game, like the one against Liberty, to hone their skills for a tough end to the season and introduction into the postseason.

"We're trying to work through our offenses and try our looks and see what we can't do," Kelsey Carlon said. "We've been coming up with a lot of new plays to do, and we try them in games when we have a good lead."

Galli scored three of her game-high four goals in the first 25 minutes, including the Lady Trojans' final score of the half that gave them a 12-1 advantage going into the break.

Sarah Stagaard, Cathleen Gaffney and Carlon all added two goals a piece in the first half.

"I kind of consider myself more of a transitioner than like a goal-scorer," Galli said. "So in games like this, I like to take the opportunity to work on my shooting and try new things in my offensive game."

While they held a sizeable margin heading into the second half, the Lady Trojans remained focused on improving their play no matter what the score.

The Lady Trojans scored the first five goals of the second half-all coming from different scorers-to make it a 17-1 game.

"I think we played really well," Galli said. "We make silly mistakes when we're in these types of games. But the biggest thing is to try new things that we wouldn't usually try, and to experiment and get more into the game."

In addition to her two goals, Carlon assisted on four other Lady Trojan scores. Stagaard and Gaffney both added three goals and an assist, while Molly Diamonstein recorded eight saves in goal.

"We try to get as many assists as we do goals," Carlon said. "We've been doing really well with that. We try to look for each other and do our cuts and get the open looks."
