Warren M. Baumer

Warren M. Baumer, 87, died April 18, 2014, in the Luther Crest Health Care Center, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Isabel J. (Bechtel) Baumer and Joan (Jarrett) Gemmel Baumer. They were married for 22 years July 2013. Born in Emmaus, he was a son of the late Miles L. Baumer and Arlene M. (Heimbach) Baumer Beers.

He was employed by the Acme Markets for 40 years in various supervisory capacities such as manager, director of wage and hour control, real estate department for new store sites and district supervisor, retiring in 1981. Thereafter, he was district supervisor for Storecast Corp. for five years.

He served with the 29th Marine Regiment of the 6th Marine Division during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was involved in the Battle of Okinawa and the occupation of Tsingtoa, China.

He was the church treasurer at Hope United Church of Christ for 10 years, a member of the Emmaus Senior Golf League and an avid golfer. He worked as a starter and ranger at the Butter Valley Golfport course for 13 years.

He resided at the Luther Crest retirement community where he enjoyed playing pool and purchasing the greeting cards for the Luther Crest Gift Shop which he managed briefly.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Glenn and his wife LeeAnn, of Center Valley, Scott and his wife Diane, of Medford, N.J.; stepdaughters, Christina Gemmel-Gnidovec and her husband Dale, of Pataskala, Ohio, Karen L. and her husband Glenn Wolf, of Coudersport, and Diane G. and her husband Dean May, of Annville; brother, Richard H. and his wife Yolanda, of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Jean Piper, of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
