LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

The Wanderers straight outta The Bronx

The Bronx Wanderers, a father and sons band born of the same Bronx neighborhood made famous in the celebrated 1993 movie "A Bronx Tale," brings classic doo-wop and new school rock to the Lehigh Valley, 8 p.m. April 26, State Theatre for the Arts, 453 Northampton St., Easton.

Bronx Wanderers founder Vinny "Yo' Vinny" Adinolfi grew up in the fabled close-knit Italian-American community in the Bronx, "The 19th Neighborhood" that also bred actors Danny Aiello and Chazz Palminteri and musicians Dion Dimucci and Larry Chance (Larry Chance the Earls).

Adinolfi was a musically-gifted child who idolized Dion, a neighborhood youth who became a rock star with his band, Dion and the Belmonts ("The Wanderer," "Runaround Sue"). Adinolfi put his own childhood dream of performing with a rock 'n' roll band on hold to pursue a successful career as a record label executive.

"I was a record producer for many years," says Adinolfi, "When I retired, I wanted to start a group that was a tribute to the old neighborhood. Danny Aiello said to me, ''ll help you out and make a video for the band.'

"We knew 'The 19th' was a great place to grow up. I wanted to represent the Bronx with this band.

"We were a Main Street Italian-American neighborhood. Everyone knew each other and everyone was there for you. You could hear Dion, Sinatra and Dean Martin playing through open windows on the street. And it's still like that today. It hasn't changed much."

Adinolfi's two sons, Vinnie, keyboards, and Nick, drums, join him on tour. Both sons grew up surrounded by the music industry because of their father's career. "It's what they knew," says Adinolfi.

"I know I'm lucky to be on tour with my sons," he says. "We get to see all these different places in the country, and I get to be with my kids. I've watched them grow up and stand up on stage and stay out of trouble. I love being on the road more than I love being home."

Adinolfi and his sons play pop hits of the 1950's and '60's ("Teenager in Love," "Sherry," "Put Your Head On My Shoulder," "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place," "There's a Kind of Hush") along with hits from recent years. "'Viva La Vida' by Coldplay brings the house down," says Adinolfi.

"My theory is a hit record is a hit record. A great song is a great song. If it works, it works. The Bronx Wanderers are timeless. If you come to see us, you will have a great time."
