Salsa music and hot summer nights in New York City's Dominican barrio sets the stage for cross-cultural love and family opposition in "In the Heights," 7 p.m. April 25, auditorium, Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School, 1401 E. Cedar St., Allentown.

When the family hope, good girl Nina Rosario (Angela Moreno), drops out of college, the family doesn't take it well. Then when they find she is in love with Benny (Elijah Garcia), an English-speaking non-Hispanic boy, her father is furious.

The cast includes Vanessa (Mariah Martinez), Usnavi (DiAnthony Vasquez) and Daniela (Luli Colon).

Julie Valenzuela is director and music director is. Mya Nales is choreographer.

The musical, opening on Broadway in 2008, was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, receiving four Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Choreography.

Music and lyrics are by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The book is by Quiara Alegría Hudes.
