Ruth E. Stauffer

Ruth E. Stauffer, 92, formerly of Shimerville, died April 2, 2014, in Le-high Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert E. Stauffer. Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Mary A. (Huter) Montz.

She was a graduate of Allentown Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an infirmary nurse at Cedar Crest College and previously worked at Allentown Hospital, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of the Macungie VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Whitehall AARP, and Bell Telephone Pioneers. She helped to organize the Lower Lehigh AARP.

She led a rich life full of small town stories and traveled to many countries. She loved Copenhagen, beer and pretzels, the Phillies, wine and cheese. Her all-time favorite were the Hawaiian Islands. She knew every bend in the road on the road to Hana. She and Al were lucky enough to visit the islands many times. She even met Don Ho, Joe DiMaggio and Eleanor Roosevelt over the years.

She is survived by sons, Wallace R. and his wife Maryann, of Old Zionsville, Alan A. and his wife Kay, of New Tripoli, and Jeffrey D., of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. The Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., is handling arrangements.
