Deran D. Smith, 79, formerly of Alburtis, died April 5, 2014, at Above and Beyond Personal Care Home. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Alverta (Green) Smith, of Kresgeville and the late Kenneth Smith.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic at Eastern Industries before retiring.

He was a member of the Alburtis Rod and Gun Club and the Alburtis Fire Company.

He was an Air Froce veteran of the Korean War.

He enjoyed lounging at his swimming pool.

He is survived by his mother; sons, Donald L. and his wife Diane, of Vera Cruz, Terry A. and his wife Deborah, of Huffs Church and Troy A., of Macungie; daughters, Shirley A., in Colorado, and Deanna John, of Emmaus; brother, Delbert Green, of Allentown, sister Gloria and her husband Leonard Eckert, of Lehighton and Florida, half-brother, Kenneth, of Center Valley; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Grace and a grandchild, Jason.
