Bath business owner Paul "JR" Connolly will be the recipient of the 2014 Good Scout Award at an April 10 fundraising breakfast.
Connolly was selected for the honor by the Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council because of his support of Scouting for many years. He is the proprietor of Bath Supply Company, Inc.
The annual Cement Belt Breakfast at which Connelly will receive the award will be held at BarnHouse Village, in Bath.
In conjunction with the breakfast, sponsors are being sought to support what the Minsi Trails Council calls "the world's best character and leadership development program." Sponsorship funds will be used to ensure Scouts from disadvantaged homes will get the financial assistance they need to participate in Scouting. the council estimates the annual cost of being a Boy Scout is more than $250.
Sponsors are invited to attend the breakfast, with the minimum sponsorship set at $100. Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor and attending the breakfast should contact the council office at 610-264-8551.
Among those on the 2014 Cement Belt Breakfast Committee is Mayor Thomas Reenok, who will declare April 10 as Cement Belt Breakfast Day in Northampton.
"Boy Scouting is unique among our youth organizations, as it serves as a means to grow in character, values and self-respect, while teaching lifelong skills," he told The Press. "Attendance at the fundraiser breakfast or a donation is a sure way to help a quality program and ensure that Scouts from disadvantaged homes can receive financial assistance to brighten their future by participating in Scouting."
