Kenneth P. Steinmetz, 99, of Orefield, died March 27, 2014, in his home.

He was the husband of Joan (Wagner) Steinmetz and the late Mary M. (Mowery) Steinmetz.

He and his second wife celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last April 3.

Born Nov. 5, 1914, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Gedney) Steinmetz. He was a mechanical engineer at the former Bell Labs, Allentown, Whippany and Murray Hill, N.J. for 45 years before retiring in1984.

He was a member of the Windward Sailing Club and the U.S. Power Squadron, both in Allentown, and the Murray Hill Canoe Club, New Jersey.

In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by sons, William H. and his wife, Lenore, of Bethlehem, Dr. Richard A. and his wife, Jeanne, of Gorham, Maine; stepchildren David H. Newton of Allentown, Peter C. Newton of Schnecksville, Judith A. Toone of Williamsville, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. April 12, in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Roberta J. Kearney officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 2-3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
