Baseball, softball finally get to play
Catty's baseball and softball teams finally took to the fields Tuesday afternoon and both came away with victories in their first games of the year.
The baseball team trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh but rallied for three runs and ended up with a 5-4 victory.
Tyler Correll started off the seventh with a single, but the next two batters struck out and flew out.
Nate Doria kept the inning alive and singled while Randal Pacchioli walked to load the bases.
A Brandon Purrone walk brought in Correll, and an Alex Torres hit by pitch brought home Doria to tie the game at 4-4. Junior Joe Rothrock's walk scored Pacchioli to give the Roughs the win.
Catty took a 1-0 lead when leadoff hitter Mike Shutta singled and eventually scored on Purrone's single in the first inning.
Pen Argyl tied it in the second 1-1 and then scored three times in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. Catty cut it to 4-2 in the fifth, again with two outs. Shutta got things going with a single and a stolen base before Doria singled to drive him in.
Zack Bradley went five innings, walked four and struck out three but allowed just one earned run. Dakota Schiffer got the win pitching the sixth and seventh striking out three and allowing two hits.
SOFTBALL
The softball team also had to rally for a victory in their 7-5 win over the Knights.
Janae Matos had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth while going 2-for-2 on the day with two RBIs.
Catty took an early 1-0 lead but the Knights scored five times in the second for a 5-1 lead.
The girls chipped away and cut it to 5-2 after three inning thanks to an Amarys Moten solo home run.
Catty then tied it with a three-run fourth inning. Shannon Gallagher, a freshman, had a double and two RBIs while going 2-for-3 on the day.
Alexis Ayache allowed five runs and 10 hits while walking two and striking out five.
