Meyers takes over LHS girls team

It's a fresh start for Liberty's girls' lacrosse team, as well as their head coach Caitie Meyers.

Meyers enters her first year at Liberty, as she was an assistant coach at a Catholic school in Maryland the past two years. Meyers first foray into head coaching duties has started off with an 0-2 mark so far this season, as Easton and Saucon Valley have dealt Liberty losses.

The Rovers topped Liberty 19-8 and Saucon scored a 10-8 victory over Meyers' crew, but she isn't discouraged about what's at her disposal.

"This is a very new, exciting experience for me," said Meyers. "Last year, the team was 2-14 and I'm hoping for a much better season this year. There is so much talent on the team this year."

Part of the talent will come from senior midfielders Ceci Barron and Rachel Becker, who led the team in goals and assists last season.

Amanda Pinter (MF) and Melissa Peters (D) round out the four captains on this year's team, who Meyers hopes can help push the program into a competitive direction.

Kyleigh Mcgovern, Erika Peters, Chase Burke, CJ Martisophski, Erika Peters, Caitlin Kennedy, and Lydia Csartari are also key returners this season.

Freshman goalie Jessica Becker enters her first year of play and will be looked upon to help Liberty keep opposing attacks at bay.

The Hurricanes have a chance to get on the winning end of things this week, as they took on Nazareth, one of the top teams in the LVC this year, before moving on to Thursday's battle with Freedom.

After last year's struggles, Meyers is optimistic that Liberty can improve their play this spring.

"One of the main goals for the program is to be above .500 this year," she said. "The team is talented and I have so much faith in every single player and what we can accomplish as a program."
