Freedom track sweeps Central Catholic
The Freedom Patriots track and field teams squeaked out two victories last week in the boys 74-67 victory over Central Catholic and the girls 72-69 victory, also over Central Catholic.
Individual event winners for the Patriot boys were Anthony Flatts in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.5, and in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.4, Chris Kelly in the 800 with a time of 2:11.0, and in the 1600 with a time of 4:55.0. Will Alpaugh won the 3200 with a time of 10:26.0.
The Vikings won all boys throwing events, but the Patriots won all relays.
Jordan Carney, Juwan Northington, Joseph Smith, and Alexander Rivera took first place in the 4x1 with a time of 47.2, Rivera, Anthony Ortiz, Jonathan Gill, and Flatts placed first in the 4x4 with a time of 3:47.1, and Chase Hoover, Jose Orellana, Alpaugh, and Kelly won the 4x8 with a time of 9:01.4.
Individual event winners for the Patriot girls were Sierra Jefferson in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.9, Morgan Weaver in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.9, and Shaina Palmer in the 800 with a time of 2:41.1, and in the 1600 with a time of 5:56.0.
Jefferson, Jayla Northington, Meghan O'Toole, and Weaver combined to win the 4x1 relay with a time of 1:05.2, and O'Toole, Bianca Ayala, Jefferson, and Weaver won the 4x4 relay with a time of 4:39.4.
In throwing events, Gia Erie won the shot put, and Jazmin Ortiz won the discus.
Also last week, Liberty's girls defeated Northampton, 91-59, while the Hurricane boys lost to Northampton, 78-72.
Individual event winners for the Hurricane girls were Aleesha Gordon in the 200 dash with a time of 26.5, Carly Strothers in the 400 dash with a time of 1:08.8, Jaylyne Aminu in the shot put, Lauren Hess in the long jump, Casey Harewood in the high jump, and Rachel Finn in the pole vault.
Liberty also won all relays as Finn, Kay West, Aminu, and Gabby Pastor took first place in the 4x1 relay with a time of 52.6, Aminu, Gordon, Naomi Valladares, and West won the 4x4 with a time of 4:40.8, and Raisa Kochmaruk, Valladares, Nikki Nelson, and Ally Lynott won the 4x8 with a time of 10:41.5.
Individual event winners for the Hurricane boys were Josiah Wright in the 100 dash with a time of 10.8, and in the 200 with a time of 23.0, Roberto Marrero in the 800 with a time of 2:08.0, Alex Fitch in the 1600 with a time of 4:41.0, Denzel Vereen in the shot put, Ryan Young in the discus, and Casey Clearie in the javelin.
Luis Noble, Brandon Tomlin, Victor Santiago, and Wright combined to win the 4x1 relay with a time of 46.2, and Robert Appleby, Chris Ebersole, Marrero, and Keauneau Bermudez combined to win the 4x8 relay with a time of 8:52.2.
