Student Profile: Caitlin McCadden, Freedom HS

Grade: 11

Family members: Nancy McCadden (Mother), Hunter McCadden (sister), Madison McCadden (sister), Autumn McCadden (sister)

Favorite subject: Some of my favorite subjects in school are the english and science courses. In science, I immensely enjoyed taking anatomy and physiology, and chemistry both in my sophomore year. However, I am also a fan of english and the english electives offered at Freedom. I typically have at least one in my schedule. The teachers I have had in these classes were definitely factors in why they are my favorite subjects.

Activities: Varsity Swimming, Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track and Field, Newspaper, National Honors Society, Rachel's Challenge, Student Council, Junior Class treasurer, National Society of High School Scholars, BASD miniTHON committee member, Student Advisory Board, Junior Representative for BASD School Board, St. Anne's Youth Group

Next steps: After high school, I plan to move onto high education and major in Chemistry, or another part of the science field. I am not positive of where I would like to go, however Villanova University is my top choice at the moment.

Career goals: I have always dreamed of being an orthodontist, or working in the medical field. I would also like to keep writing in the future, even if it just a hobby.

Heroes: First and foremost, my mother is my hero. As a single mom, she has successfully raised my sisters and me to become independent young ladies while putting herself through school. She is truly the definition of a hard worker and I am forever thankful for everything she has done. Second, Mother Teresa is a role model for me. Her selfless compassion, and undeniable acceptance of everyone around her is something that every person should strive to achieve.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my sisters and friends, as well as giving back to the community and the people around me.

Current job(s): Life guard for the City of Bethlehem, Life guard at Northwest Swim Club

Volunteer/community work: Volunteer for St. Anne's Youth Group, and Special Olympics

Likes: I love making people smile, and helping out whenever I can. Pasta is definitely a huge like of mine; I could eat it any time. I also very much enjoy swimming competitively. I have made so many friends through swimming, and have become a better athlete and person in general.

Dislikes: My number one dislike is being called "Cait" instead of Caitlin. I also don't like when people treat others as if they are worth less. I went to Catholic school, and was raised on those principles, therefore bully is something I don't take lightly.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far would have to be having a tremendous swim season this year while still balancing school, and my social life. I dropped over 14 seconds in my 200 yard IM, still maintained over a 4.3 gpa, with time to spare for my friends and family.

Advice for peers: The best advice I have been given, and I constantly give to my fellow teammates, friends, and peers is to be supportive of each other. It's easy to get jealous, or upset when other people, especially those we don't like, are successful, but recognizing others strength will help you grow as a person. We must support those around us because if we were in the same situation, we would want them standing there right next to us, cheering us on.
