Police to target aggressive drivers

Upper Macungie police will be participating in aggressive driving enforcement activities as part of the state's Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project.

The first Wave enforcement in 2014 was scheduled from March 24 to May 4. Upper Macungie police will target Route 100 and any other roadway in the township.

The goal is to reduce the number of aggressive driving related crashes, injuries and deaths on 435 roadways throughout the state.

Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket.

Municipal police agencies that participated in last year's campaign wrote 116,191 aggressive-driving related citations, including 54,785 for speeding.

Disobedience of traffic control devices and signs was the second most-common offense, resulting in 14,452 citations.

The extra traffic enforcement also brought about 118 felony, 1,210 DUI and 568 drug-related arrests.
