There is not a lot the Parkland girls lacrosse team could have done better during the 2013 season. The Trojans won the Lehigh Valley Conference title, and had one of the top offensive attacks in the league.
But they fell one game short of their main goal of winning a District 11 championship and advancing to the state tournament. Parkland lost to Southern Lehigh 9-7.
The outlook for the 2014 season looks very bright for the Trojans. Losing two starters from last year's team, that high-scoring offense will look very familiar this season.
Top scorers Kelsey Carlon and Sophie Castillo are back, along with Mackenzie Galli and Sarah Staagard. On the defensive side of the field, Abby Miller and Kristen McCarty return, and the safety net in the back of the defense, goal keeper Molly Diamondstein, will remain between the goal posts.
Along with the return of many key starters, head coach Joe Seitzinger welcomes the additions of newcomers in sophomores Ana Emrick at midfield, and Sage Barnett at low defense.
"We are returning a lot of players with varsity experience, along with solid JV players that will move up and have a great understanding of our offensive and defensive philosophy," Seitzinger stated. "We've had some preseason injuries that have left us a little thin with numbers at the moment. But the players are looking forward to a competitive 2014 season."
Parkland has all of the pieces in place to fulfill its goal of making the league and district final for the second straight year, goals which Seitzinger said are at the top of their wishlist.
