Liberty HS was jump'n Jan. 24 when a bunch of high school kids put on a very grown up "A Winter Fashion Show." The freezing weather made the title quite apropos.

Between each walk around the runway by the models dancers, singers and poets entertained the audience.

The event benefited the Liberty HS Chapter of the NAACP Youth Council whose members were active in organizing the event.

Junior classman Jamid Ali Knight, the president of the chapter, was director and executive producer of the show. He announced at the conclusion that the show had raised $300 through ticket sales.

Giving thought to the basketball game on the same night and the icy and snowy roads, he said to the enthusiastic crowd of students, parents and relatives, "Honestly, I thought we might have 10 people here tonight!"

The models, girls or every size, did a marvelous job showing off some of the hottest fashions. No one tripped and there were no wardrobe malfunctions.

Between runways shows, an enthusiastic bunch of students, demonstrated break dancing, hip-hop and maybe some dance steps created for the well-choreographed show. That the high energy level of the dancers was infectious was clear when members of the audience started dancing.

The boys in the dance numbers also showed fashion sense with their New York look.

Mistress of ceremonies Bianca Butler was perfect even under the stress of not everything being on perfect cue. She demonstrated great pose and good humor while keeping show moving along.

Two particularly talented girls, Josselyn Alvarenga and Maggie Mowrer did a spectacular interpretive dance.

Talented Nia Vasquez recited a moving poem.

Singer Rosly Ociel was a hit of the show with "Say My Name." Singer Calvin Hunter was an audience favorite with his song, "Turn Up The Music."
