Evonne's Sandwich Shop

Not all sandwiches are alike.

Just ask Evonne Johnson of Catasauqua, owner of Evonne's Sandwich Shop, 117 Pine St.

Johnson prides herself on a personalized approach in preparing a sandwich.

Johnson and her husband of 18 years, David Wirth, searched for the perfect location in the Lehigh Valley to open up Evonne's. In the end, Catasauqua became the final destination. Wirth occasionally helps at the shop.

"We came here to open up a business," Johnson said.

Johnson was immediately sold on the appearance and feel of Catasuaqua. She has tried to replicate the small-town environment into her sandwich shop.

"I like the old world look of Catty," she said. "That's what I've been trying to do with the business."

Johnson, who previously served as a restaurant manager for 15 years, is simply passionate about what she does and it shows in her skillful and warm approach in preparing a sandwich.

"I love people and I love to cook," she said as she prepares a Cuban panini, her most sought after sandwich. "I get to interact with people with this type of setup."

Johnson is confident people in Catasauqua and the surrounding communities will receive a unique experience at her sandwich shop.

"People can create their own sandwich," she said. "They don't have to order what's on the menu."

Prices for all sandwiches are under $6. A bag of chips is included with each sandwich. All meats are personally sliced by Johnson. Salads are also included in the menu.

Evonne's serves breakfast 8 a.m.-noon. The shop also accepts credit card payments.

Johnson said to date she has received many repeat customers.

"We're going to give them the best food and give them friendly service," she said.

Evonne's is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The shop is closed Sundays.

Johnson said she is now taking orders for party platters at 610-443-1767.

"I want to give the customers something different," she added of the shop.
