Residents of this four-apartment residence in the 1000 block of Second Street, North Catasauqua, and a single-family home next door were evacuated Saturday when a crack in the foundation widened to a gaping hole, compromising the foundation and leading authorities to speculate on whether there is a sink hole under the property. Acting borough Fire Chief Shawn McGinley told The Press Monday that borough Code Enforcement Officer Richard Pietkiewicz is assessing and evaluating the damage to determine if the foundation continues to shift. In the meantime, parking is prohibited on that side if the street as a precaution and residents have had to find other housing.
