Four starters return for Bethlehem Cath.

Bethlehem Catholic High School's softball team has been making do in preparation for the 2014 season, but the Hawks first two games were already postponed last weekend.

"I don't think we're going to have a season this year...," said Becahi coach Rich Mazza.

In addition, the Hawks have been hitting and throwing, but there has not been much opportunity for fielding.

Still, Becahi will be returning four starters from last year: catcher, Jean Markovic, shortstop, Emily Brandstetter, centerfielder, Julia Madison, and first baseman, Courtney Shupp.

"We like a lot of stuff we see. The seniors are nice athletes. We just have to see how they perform in games," Mazza said.

Rounding out the roster will be senior leftfielder, Ann Li Dietrich, who will also do some pitching, third baseman, Bethanne Brandstetter, rightfielder, Brooke Rau, and second baseman, Angelyse Cotto.

Sharing pitching duties with Dietrich will be Elyse Cuttic and Kaelah Horwath.

"We'll see who emerges there," said Mazza. "The sophomores are good athletes. We'll have to see how they're progressing once the games start. It's a tough league."

Becahi's first conference game is scheduled for March 27 at Liberty.

"They're loaded. They have exceptional hitters, and a lot of them have been there four years. Freedom has a young pitcher, and they're well-coached. We'll have to see," Mazza said.
